Area Information

La Plata County is located in the southwestern part of Colorado. The area includes Durango, Bayfield, Hesperus and neighbors San Juan, Montezuma, Archuleta, Dolores and Hinsdale counties.

The Durango area has endless outdoor recreation and is known to offer a less busy and crowded mountain living lifestyle vs. Telluride, Breckenridge, Steamboat, Vail and other rivaling resort communities in Colorado. There are several lakes, hiking/biking trails, river rafting and the big winter draw are the two ski resorts- Purgatory and Wolf Creek.

A few other local attractions include the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Trail, various top rate golf courses, and the Durango Hot Springs.

Throughout the year you can find local events for the family to enjoy. The iron horse bike classic, multiple wine and beer festivals, music in the mountains, snowdown, and the film festival attract tourist in all seasons.
